A Nutritionist Can Help with Weight Loss
There’s a lot that goes into losing weight and building fitness. For most people, it’s not enough to simply count calories and go to the gym a few times per week. To get better results, you need a customized plan that takes your body’s composition and individualized needs and goals into consideration. Using biometric measurements, a consultation from a nutritionist, and a customized plan with personal training will help you develop the program you need to meet your weight loss and fitness goals.
Biometrics and Weight Loss
Biometrics are biological measurements, or physical characteristics, that describe your body. There are a number of metrics that identify you as an individual, including fingerprinting and facial recognition. But, there are also a number of biometric measurements that can be used to help you lose weight.
Body Composition
Body composition is a measurement of your body fat, or what percentage of your body is fat, and what is lean muscle. Measuring your body composition is a good way to set fitness goals and monitor your progress. If you aren’t careful, restricting calories can lead to loss of muscle mass in addition to fat. In fact, even thin people may have a body fat percentage that is too high in comparison to lean muscle. A healthy weight loss program focuses on trimming fat while building muscle.
Resting Metabolic Rate
Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the rate at which your body burns energy (calories) when it is at rest. Factors such as age, body size, gender, and activity level can affect your RMR, which accounts for 60 to 75 percent of the calories you burn each day, or your total daily energy expenditure. Other factors that influence your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) include exercise, non-exercise activities, and digestion. You can use a free TDEE calculator online to estimate how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than what you burn in a day.
How a Nutritionist Can Help
Along with exercise, nutrition is a key component in weight loss. A personal consultation with a nutritionist will help you plan a diet or meal plan that will get you to your weight loss and fitness goals. Using information about your body composition and your calorie expenditures, plus how much weight you want to lose, a nutritionist can design meal plans that will help you lose fat while building muscle. No one diet or program can fit every person. Nutritionist consultations take into account your personal needs and habits to create a meal plan that is just right for you.
